How to properly connect the Internet cable to an outlet. Connection diagram for RJ 45

Most often, the installation and connection of an Internet outlet related to low-current lines is carried out in a triple block:

  • regular 220 Volt
  • internet socket
  • television under TV

For most models, for example from Schneider Electric (Unica series), Legrand, Lezard, the installation principle is almost the same and does not contain fundamental differences.

Let's take a step-by-step look at the entire cycle of connecting an Internet outlet.

Internet cable

Installation begins with installing the router in a low-current switchboard and connecting it to a 220V power outlet.

Next, a 4-pair UTP series 5E cable is laid in a separate cable channel or groove not connected to power lines.

This cable provides connection speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second over a distance of up to 100m. Here are its technical characteristics:

There are shielded and unshielded varieties. Foil acts as a shield in networks where there is normal grounding.

One such 5E cable (4 pairs) can only connect two sockets. In this case, 2 pairs will be involved separately.

Installation is carried out with a single wire directly from the switchboard to the socket box. Lead the cable into the installation box and leave the necessary margin - from 15 cm or more.

Installation of an internet outlet

First remove the cover from the socket and pull out the caliper for ease of installation.

If the design of the socket allows, the frame can be mounted initially on the socket box. Thanks to the grooves in the frame, you can easily adjust its horizontal position.

Use 3*25mm screws to pre-tighten the entire structure. At the same time, you check the accuracy of the installation with a Pocket Electric level and tighten the screws completely.

Manufacturers have recently begun to make frames from aluminum alloy; they are, of course, stronger in design, but will not be magnetic to the level. You will have to support it with one hand.

Next, bite off and leave a supply of wire in the socket, a maximum length of 15 cm. Remove the top layer of insulation from the UTP cable.

To remove the insulation, so as not to damage the conductors, it is better to use a special tool - a stripper. But you can do all this carefully and with an ordinary stationery knife.

The top layer of the cable must be cleared to a length of no more than 2.5 cm. Cut off the excess thread in this case that goes between the cores.

A strong thread in twisted pair cables, often used to facilitate opening the sheath over long lengths. It’s even called that – a breaking thread. In telephone cables, it separates bundles and layers.

Lightly unravel the veins individually. Next, pull out the inner part of the socket with the contacts.

As a rule, any brand, be it a TV, an Internet outlet or a regular 220 Volt, should come with instructions.

Standards and connection diagram

Open the cover of the contact part and carefully study the markings. Each RJ45 socket can be connected in two ways:

  • according to standard “A”
  • according to standard “B”

In most cases, the second option, “B,” is used. To understand where to connect which wires, carefully inspect the housing. It should indicate which standard corresponds to certain contacts.

For example on Unica:

  • protocol “B” refers to the top color coding. When connecting, you will be guided by these colors.
  • “A” – to the bottom color marking

If you figure this out, then there will be no difficulties with further installation. Protocol “B” follows the color scheme according to the EIA/TIA-568B standard. One side of the clip should have the following colors:

  • white- orange
  • orange
  • white- green
  • green

On the other side:

  • blue
  • white- blue
  • white- brown
  • brown

Pass the wire through the cap. In this case, as mentioned above, the top layer of UTP cable insulation should not be removed by more than 2.5 cm.

You cannot strip it right up to the wall of the socket box, as is done with conventional NYM or VVGnG cables.

The section without insulation must be of a minimum length. All these twists are not done easily. Their exact quantity per 1 meter of cable is strictly calculated and regulated.

Otherwise, if you connect and strip it incorrectly, not only the speed, but also the quality of data transfer may decrease.

Then you simply snap the lid on. Extra sections of cores that protrude outwards You need to cut it off after closing the lid.

The outlet is actually already connected. All that remains is to insert it into place in the caliper.

The main advantage of such Internet sockets is that with them there is no need to remove the insulation from the cores and expose it to copper. Special knives are already installed inside the socket itself.

When you close the lid, the blades automatically cut through the insulation and create a contact connection. The instructions for such brands often indicate that when connecting the wire, the use of special crimpers is prohibited.

It’s as if it’s already in the design. That is, when the lid is closed, it itself cuts off the insulation and lays the wires to the required depth of the connector.

Connecting to the router and crimping the connector

After installing the Internet outlet itself, all that remains is to correctly connect the cable to the router in the communication panel.

Remove the insulation from the other end of the cable by 2-3cm. The wires are fluffed up and inserted in a certain order, according to the TIA-568B standard, or simply “B”.

The arrangement of colors is considered from left to right:

  • white- orange
  • orange
  • white- green
  • blue
  • white- blue
  • green
  • white- brown
  • brown

Standard "A" is sometimes used if you need to connect one computer to another. Here you crimp one end of the cable according to standard “B”, and the other according to “A”. In general, if both ends of the cable are crimped according to the same standard (AA or BB), then this is called a patch cord. And if they are swapped (AB or BA), then it’s a cross.

Again, there is no need to strip the veins. Just insert them into the connector until it stops.

After which all this is pressed in with a special crimper. Some people do this with a thin screwdriver or a knife blade, although this can easily damage the connector.

The cat5E and cat6 cables in the RJ45 connector are crimped according to the same principle. Another "fork" is not required here. Cables differ in data transfer speed; cat6 has a higher speed.

Checking your Internet connection

After installing the Internet socket and connector at the other end of the cable, it is advisable to check the connection and integrity of all connections. This can be done with the cheapest Chinese device.

What is its essence? There is a signal generator that sends pulses according to certain codes, and a receiver. The generator is connected to the location where the router is installed, and the receiver is connected directly to the outlet itself.

After the pulses are applied, the signals are compared. If everything is in order, the green LED lights on the receiver body light up one by one. If there is a break or short circuit somewhere, then one or more light bulbs will not light up at all.

When this happens, the first thing to blame is poor contact in the connectors. Most often, it is there, on any core, that the insulation is not completely cut off and, accordingly, there will be no connection.

At the very end, a ready-made, tested cable with a connector is connected to the router.

A complete set of all tools for cutting, crimping, and testing the UTP Internet cable can be ordered on AliExpress here (free delivery).

How to connect a 4-wire telephone cable

But what should you do if you use a 4-wire telephone cable for the Internet, and the socket is a standard 8-wire socket? How to connect the circuit in this case?

Simple color matching won't help here. That is, if you insert the white-blue core into contact with the white-blue marking and connect all the other wires in the same color, there will be no signal.

This is explained by the fact that to transmit the signal you need to use contacts 1-2-3-6.

On one side, connect two wires to contacts 1-2:

  • white- orange contact = white- orange lived
  • orange= orange lived

and on the other, to pins 3-6:

  • white- green contact = white- blue lived on the cable
  • green = blue lived

In this case, everything should work without problems. Just remember that here the most important thing is not the colors, but the positions. Colors are used to make it visually easier to distinguish the positions of the same core at different ends of the cable.

Also keep in mind that when using 4 wires, i.e. two pairs of twisted pair, you can achieve speeds of up to 100Mbps. But for a gigabit network (1Gbit/sec) you will already need all 8 wires.

Errors when connecting an Internet outlet

1 Incorrect connection of cores according to the protocol.

You can easily confuse the order of the wires on the connector and in the socket itself. Roughly speaking, turn them 180 degrees.

Here everything is checked by a more careful study of the inscriptions on the body of the socket and the color of the wires themselves. A tester with a signal generator and receiver is a good helper for identifying such errors.

If the wires are connected incorrectly, the lights on the tester will light up not in order from 1 to 8, but in random patterns. For example, first 1, then immediately 3, then 2, etc.

2 It is not significant, but still considered an error if the cores from the contact plates of the socket are cut off not after closing the cover, but before this moment.

That is, immediately after placing them in their places in the slot. In this case, the core may accidentally fall out, and it will not be possible to insert it back after being cut. You will have to clean everything out again and go through the entire connection cycle again.

And if you left the supply of cable in the installation box small, then you will face a big headache.

3 Stripping external insulation over a long distance, right up to the walls of the socket box, as in conventional 220V networks.

As mentioned earlier, the result here is a deterioration in the speed and quality of the signal. Moreover, there is no need to first unravel the twisted pairs to the point where the insulation is cut, especially with a screwdriver. Simply embroider them by spreading the strands to the required length to fit them into the slots.

According to the standard, it is not allowed to unwind a twisted pair cable by more than 13mm, otherwise crosstalk errors will appear in frequency response tests. In practice, problems will begin when the network is loaded with traffic.

Most people live in separate apartments and private properties. And often for each room it is necessary to solve one small but rather insidious problem: in an affordable, low-cost, but effective way to create an access point for connecting to the Internet. It would seem that the answer is obvious - purchase and configure a Wi-Fi router and forget about all the problems. However, wired Internet still remains the most common and reliable solution, because such a signal is much more stable. This leads to another problem - how to hide the Internet wiring? Usually it is mounted in walls and connected to sockets, although not of a completely standard type: they are called computer or simply Internet sockets.

What is an Internet socket

The main difference between an Internet outlet and a regular electrical outlet is that it has its own unique connector, which is connected to a special type of wiring called twisted pair. It is unique in that it contains 8 separate copper wires twisted together into 4 pairs. Thanks to this connection system, existing electromagnetic interference is leveled out, which ultimately ensures high data transfer rates (up to 1000 Mbit/s).

The Internet socket has a special connector to which a twisted pair cable is connected.

The response connector is called RJ-45/8p8c. It is mounted on the cable using a special tool, and the connector wires must be located in a strictly defined order.

The sequence of colors of wires connected to the connector contacts is determined by the standard diagram

Classification of Internet outlets

IT specialists classify Internet outlets according to their distinctive features:

Algorithm for laying Internet cables in walls

The most correct, but at the same time difficult to implement solution for laying an Internet cable in a home (office) environment is to install it inside the walls. The advantages of such wiring are obvious: the cable does not get tangled underfoot and does not affect the decorative design of the room. A significant disadvantage of in-wall installation is that in the future there may be problems with access to the cable for repair or maintenance. But with proper cable routing along grooves in a corrugated PVC pipe, you can not only minimize the risk of a malfunction, but also provide relatively easy access to the twisted pair without complex dismantling work.

Before you start laying the Internet cable, it is worth marking the places where it will be located. Remember that unshielded twisted pair cable is made of copper, which is very sensitive to electromagnetic interference. Try to keep the distance between computer and electrical wiring at least 50 cm.

How to pinout an RJ-45 cable

When crimping a twisted pair cable, you must adhere to a certain pinout (color scheme). There are two generally accepted connection standards.

To select the correct connection color scheme, it is worth contacting your Internet service provider and obtaining from them information about what scheme was used during the connection.

We carry out the work in the following order.

Video: RJ-45 pinout (four pairs)

A two-pair RJ-45 cable uses data transfer rates of up to 1 Gb/s.

The two-pair cable is connected to one side of the socket contacts

The pinout of a two-pair cable is the same as for a four-pair cable. Only instead of eight multi-colored wires, only four are switched: white-blue, blue, white-orange and orange. Then the cable is crimped, the socket is assembled and installed, and its functionality is checked.

Video: RJ-45 pinout (two pairs)

How to crimp an RJ-45 cable onto the contacts of an Internet socket

When pinouting the cable to the terminals of the Internet socket, you should crimp them. The performance of the Internet connection will depend on this. Based on a similar process for conventional electrical outlets, one would assume that crimping an Internet outlet is a similarly labor-intensive process involving removing the protection from each individual wire and then connecting them with bolts. In reality, everything is much simpler and faster. The contacts of an Internet cable are designed in such a way that when a conductor is firmly connected to them, they cut the insulating coating, resulting in contact with the copper core. Because of this, stripping each wire is not necessary.

Typically, an extractor is used to crimp socket contacts - a cross-connecting knife.. The work should be done carefully to avoid damage to the cable.

The cable is crimped into a computer socket using a cross-connecting knife.

Video: crimping an RJ-45 cable

Signal check, testing

After pinouting the Internet socket and the RJ-45 connector at the opposite end of the cable, you should make sure that the installed line is working. The test is best done with a special device called a cable tester.

It is better to check the functionality of the socket using a specialized device.

It consists of two parts - a signal generator that transmits short electrical pulses using encrypted codes, and a receiver that processes these codes. The generator connects to your router, and the receiver connects to an internet outlet.

After the transmission of electrical signals, they are compared. If all connections are working properly, two green LED lights on the generator and receiver housings light up sequentially. If there is a break somewhere on the cable or a short circuit is visible on the Internet outlet itself, then one or both LEDs will not light up at all.

Review of products from famous brands - manufacturers of Internet sockets

Without exception, all Internet sockets are divided into two large subgroups: mortise and external. The manufacturer usually only slightly changes the mechanism for attaching the socket to the wall, but the principle of connecting it to the Internet always remains the same. Let's look at the most common manufacturer brands.

Legrand

Internet sockets from the French manufacturer are not only one of the most popular, but also have one of the best cable retention mechanisms. The connection diagram for Legrand sockets does not differ from generally accepted standards. At the same time, any Internet outlet can be connected either by type A or type B. The color schemes for connection are located on the terminal of the outlet itself.

Pinout and connection of the Legrand socket is carried out according to the generally accepted scheme

Viko (“Viko”)

Viko sockets are cheaper than Legrand's, while their quality remains at a high level. The body is made of durable polymer materials, and the internal assembly is very ergonomic.

Viko sockets are an economical and high-quality solution

The only major difference from other manufacturers is that there are no hints on the terminal inside in the form of a color connection scheme. Therefore, pinouts should be done very carefully.

Lezard

Switches and sockets of the Lezard brand are produced by the Turkish company Dernek GROUP. They do not have any distinctive features.

The Lezard socket is connected and installed quite simply

Schneider (“Schneider”)

This outlet is connected in the same way as others. Often it can be double, then you will have to connect two cables from the router, since parallel connection is not supported by the network equipment.

The most common version of the Schneider socket has two outputs

Connecting an Internet network via cable is the most common method today. Wired Internet is still considered the most stable. For ease of connection, there are special sockets, thanks to which any cable can be hidden in the wall. This seemingly time-consuming task of connection and installation is actually solved relatively easily, without requiring the use of expensive tools. Therefore, anyone can connect an Internet outlet.

Connecting Legrand Internet sockets with a cable (diagram)

Access to the Internet has long become commonplace for modern people. To simultaneously use the World Wide Web with several gadgets, of course, one router providing wireless Wi-Fi is sufficient, but to connect it you need to install an Internet socket. In this article we will tell you about connecting an Internet outlet and look at step-by-step instructions.

This procedure differs from installing a conventional connector, because the design of the device is different and the principle of its operation has nothing to do with a 220V power supply point. However, having the necessary information and skills in working with electrical appliances, the user will be able to carry out the installation himself.

Design features of the Internet socket

The described products are passive network equipment designed for switching devices to local networks using special disconnectors. Like regular sockets, devices for Internet connection, called RJ-45, can be external (surface), installed on top of a plane, and internal (mortise), mounted inside the wall.

Internal socket for Internet connection, painted in dark color

The main components of a computer connector are:

  • front side – which is a decorative panel with a socket for patch cords;
  • the reverse (internal) part is essentially a terminal block with contacts for wires from the Internet cable.

A twisted pair network cable is inserted into the socket, which contains four twists of two wires each. They are divided into eight conductors with different colors.

Appearance and internal structure of a twisted pair Internet cable

Each conductor is connected to the corresponding contact of the socket according to a specific diagram. This connection is called cross-connection. Its implementation is described in more detail in the next section. Wires come in two-pair and four-pair types. The former are used in networks where signal transmission occurs at a speed of less than 1 Gb/s. But in our high-speed age, everything is changing quickly and the data flow on the World Wide Web can very soon reach values of several gigabytes per second. Therefore, it is better to use four-pair products designed for speeds up to 10 Gb/sec to avoid later rework.

Installation and connection of a power outlet

The twisted pair wire is laid in a cable channel or covered with a plinth. The free end is led out through the socket box (when installing a mortise model) or is left uncovered (if an overhead version is mounted). Its length is left sufficient to carry out the necessary work. 7-8 cm is removed from the very edge and the outer shell is removed from this area. The conductor pairs unwind, separate and straighten. Further steps are given in the instructions.

Step-by-step instructions for connecting RJ-45 with a four-pair wire

  1. Crimp the wires in the socket terminals according to the selected option (the color of the wire matches the color of the contact). For example, as shown in the picture, from left to right: brown, white-brown, green, white-green, orange, white-orange, blue, white-blue. It is better to consider the procedure for crimping in a separate paragraph of this publication.

  1. Secure the wire with a clamp and carry out a preliminary check of signal transmission through the connector. To do this, connect the connector from your tablet, laptop or mobile phone to the disassembled device and make sure there is a connection to the Internet.
  2. Trim excess wires. Assemble the socket by connecting both parts. Fix it on the wall or in it (depending on the type of design) just like a regular electrical point.

Upon completion, you must again check the functionality of the already assembled device by connecting a laptop or other gadget. article: → “How to properly install and connect an outlet? Connection diagrams."

Connecting RJ-45 with two twisted pair wires

Preparatory actions in this case are carried out exactly as in the previous version. The only difference can be considered the connection itself. Instead of eight conductors, the four present in the wire are switched. The contacts corresponding to the color of the wires and corresponding to the selected scheme “A” or “B” are used. After this, the product is crimped, assembled and installed, and signal transmission is checked.

An example of crossing an Internet cable with two twisted pairs in an RJ-45 socket

Practical advice: Remember that two twisted pair wires are used to transfer data at speeds up to 1 Gb/sec. As the speed of the Internet signal increases, the wire will have to be replaced and all connections made on it will also have to be replaced.

Crimping wires on socket contacts

As stated above. When connecting wires to the terminals of the device, it is necessary to crimp them. The quality of operation of the entire system will depend on this procedure. There is no need to think that you need to scrupulously remove the sheath from each wire and then connect it to a bolted connection, as happens in conventional electrical sockets. The contacts of system connectors are designed in such a way that when the conductor is inserted tightly onto them, they cut the insulating coating and provide switching with the copper conductor. There is no need to strip thin wires.

Such a high-quality and reliable connection is achieved when the wire enters the contact terminal all the way. You can use a knife or thin screwdriver for this. But you must act extremely carefully so as not to damage the wire. article: → “How to properly connect wires to each other: terminals, caps, welding, soldering, crimping.”

Connecting a connector to connect a computer to an outlet: step-by-step instructions

To connect a laptop to an Internet outlet, you must have a power cord equipped at both ends with connectors - adapter devices that provide connection to an RJ-45 socket. The connector is crossed onto a wire with four twisted pairs according to the color schemes suggested in the figure:

Color scheme for cross-connecting the RJ-45 connector according to options “B” and “A”

The process of installing a device on a wire can be presented in the form of step-by-step instructions:

  1. The wire at the end is freed from the protective sheath, after which the twisted pair conductors are untwisted and aligned
  2. The wires are distributed according to the colors indicated on the corresponding color scheme and cut to the same length - 10-12 mm
  3. Having placed the conductors close to each other, they are all inserted into the connector together, after which the correctness of their location is again checked
  4. A crimping tool is used to crimp the wires into the connector.

If a crimping tool is not available, crimping can be done using a thin flathead screwdriver. To do this, use a screwdriver to press one by one on each of the contacts of the device so that it clamps the conductor located in it all the way. At the same time, the built-in microknife will cut through the insulation of the wiring and ensure reliable switching. The cross-connection diagram of the Internet wire on the connector must correspond to the diagram in the socketR.J.-45. Otherwise, connection to the World Wide Web will not be available..

Other connector connection diagrams

In addition to connecting the computer to the Internet connector, you may need a cord to connect the computer to another computer. In this case, the cross-connection will be different at different ends of the wire. Also, do not forget about the 2-pair wire, which is also often used for connections.

Schemes for crimping twisted pair cables for different connections with 4 and 2 pair wires

The color schemes shown in the figure will help you cross wires for different connection options. article: → “Operation principle, selection criteria and installation of a GSM socket.”

Common mistakes when installing computer connectors

The most common mistakes when installing sockets and connectors are associated with inattention to the distribution of wires by color.

Error 1. The computer socket is installed independently according to option “B”, and the connecting cord is purchased together with the gadget or separately, but already assembled. The user begins to connect without checking. The mistake is that the wire can be mounted according to scheme “A”, in this case there will be no connection. Before use, you must ensure that the connector is cross-linked appropriately.

Error 2. To ensure good contact, the user tries to strip the twisted pair wiring with a knife. The mistake is that it is a waste of time and effort. Signal transmission from such procedures will not improve. Correct crimping will ensure fast switching and reliable contact

Error 3. Leaving too long a free end of the wire when installing a socket. The error will be detected only after connecting the wire, while attaching the device to the wall or inside the wall. If the length of the cable does not allow it to be placed in the socket box, then the entire connection procedure will have to be repeated again, after shortening it. Therefore, you should not leave a large piece of cord - 15-20 cm is enough.

Error 4. Using a low-quality product from a dubious manufacturer. Installing an Internet outlet is one of those issues that arises quite rarely. It is for this reason that you should not save and jeopardize the use of global network resources. It is better to purchase a high-quality device from a well-known manufacturer. The same applies to cables.

Practical advice: If the user has no idea about working with sockets and wires, it is better not to try to install and connect them yourself. It is recommended to use the services of specialists who will do everything competently and quickly.

In conclusion, I would like to note that the Internet is an outstanding achievement of modern civilization. The attitude towards the possibility of access to this resource must be responsible. Properly performed work on installing a computer socket and cord with connectors will ensure high-quality and reliable communication with the global information system.

After the appearance of Internet sockets from Legrand on the Russian market, there was no longer any need to invite a specialist to the house to connect it.

The procedure has been significantly simplified and can be done even in the absence of a special tool, just a screwdriver and wire cutters are enough.

Of course, having a special tool makes the task even easier; this and other issues related to connection are described in detail in the illustrated guide below.

Preparatory activities

For experienced users, studying the first section of this guide is optional. The material included in the preparatory activities is aimed at beginners. Therefore, advanced users can immediately proceed directly to the procedure for connecting an Internet outlet, which is described starting from the second section of this manual.

So, the cable from the Internet provider, which enters the subscriber’s home from the entrance, in the vast majority of cases has 4 pairs intertwined with each other, which is why the nickname “twisted pair” stuck to the wire.

Each wire in pairs has its own insulation color.

They are inserted into the Legrand socket connector and crimped. It should be noted that this is the most difficult and critical stage of all installation stages.

If you make a mistake at this stage and mix up the wiring, the socket will not work. At the preliminary stage, it is recommended to practice on a simple jack; this will not take a significant amount of time, but will allow a beginner to gain invaluable experience, which will help, without damaging the socket, to install it correctly on the first try.

In addition, a cable with a jack is in any case necessary for the user when connecting, for example, a computer. The jack itself costs a penny and you don’t mind damaging it during the training phase, which cannot be said about the Internet outlet.

There are a couple of basic steps you need to take:

Correct wiring arrangement

There are two main types of wiring pinouts: “A” and “B”, but in most cases “B” is used, so a simple home user only needs to learn the second order arrangement of the wires.

If you connect all the wires correctly, then there will be no problems with the Legrand socket. The figure below shows the pinout diagrams.

Four-pair cables are widespread, that is, containing 8 colored wires (there may be another additional thin wire for shielding, but if there is one, then after removing the insulation it can simply be bent to the side so as not to interfere).

However, there are also two-pair ones, which have a lower throughput. In this case, the contact diagram will be as shown in the figure below.

In any case, the jack is eight-pin.

Crimping

It is necessary to carefully remove the cable sheath without damaging the colored insulation of thin wires (usually 5-6 centimeters is enough).

Next, you need to unwind and straighten the pairs of wires. Then arrange them according to type “B” and cut off the ends with wire cutters as shown in the photo below.

It is recommended to place the jack next to the wires, so it will immediately become clear how long the ends should be left (about 1 cm).

After that, enter them into the jack. In this case, the connector is positioned with the latch down (the latch is a latch that prevents the jack from falling out of the Legrand socket after it is installed).

All colored wires must be placed in individual grooves and the jack must be installed in the socket of special pliers.

Holding the wire with one hand, bring the special handles together with the other. tool together (you don’t need to apply a lot of force; if the installation is done correctly, the tool handles come together almost effortlessly).

Note: when the handles of the pliers are closed too hard or a cracking noise appears, you need to remove the jack from the tool and check for correct installation.

After bringing the handles of the special pliers together, the insulation will be cut off and the jack will have reliable contacts for connection.

Procedure for connecting an internet outlet

Rarely does anyone have difficulty connecting a Legrand socket, since the design has been improved and tested for many years. For example, in the Legrand Valena model socket the connectors are located immediately under the front cover.

The following sequential steps are required:

Since Legrand produces various types of sockets, each user selects the best option for specific conditions. Of course, the installation and fastening of, for example, an internal socket is different from an external one, but the connection principles are similar.

Modern ethics allows for mounting sockets not only on the walls of rooms, but even on furniture. The variety of colors and designs of sockets produced by the company allows you to quickly select the appropriate option for an office or living room.

How to connect a regular type connector?

It should be connected using one of 2 types: “A” or “B”, described in the first paragraph of this instruction. But in most cases in the Russian Federation, type “B” is used.

To get to the connector, you will need to disassemble the socket, however, in Legrand this process is structurally simplified and is completed in a matter of seconds. Inside, the user will see color coding for connections. It is required to remove the insulation from the cable and lay out the wiring, guided by the colors, and crimp the cores.

If the excess length of the wires protrudes beyond the cover, then armed with wire cutters, you will need to cut them off. Next, the socket is inserted into the seat and screwed tightly.

How to connect a connector that allows for quick installation?

The connection diagram of the connector is no different from a regular socket, but the method of installing the socket is different.

At the back of this socket there are latches that can be turned to the left. After this, remove the connector. The cable wires should be connected according to the standard diagram.

After the procedure of cutting off the excess length of the wires, insert the connector into the socket and turn to the right, which will lead to crimping and obtaining good contacts.

Technical aspects of installing wiring and sockets

The main problem with connecting an outlet is laying a cable to it throughout the apartment. There are many separate materials on the Internet devoted to this issue, so it is not advisable to load the instructions with unnecessary details.

The main point that is recommended to be taken into account is the supply of wiring to the destination separately from the power lines. However, often this is not possible and in these cases such a design is acceptable, but with a shield wire.

As described in the first section of this manual, that is, in the preparatory activities, you first need to remove the insulation from the end of the cable (5-6 cm).

Legrand sockets are disassembled according to the same principle. For example, "Legrand celiane" also has a twist latch. As a result, the socket is disassembled into 3 components:

  1. Fastening;
  2. Module;
  3. Lid.

The connector is located inside the element numbered “2”.

To get to it, you need to turn the latch to the left, after which it can be easily removed. Enter postings according to type “B”. In order to check the correct location of the contacts, it is convenient to use a jack that has been prepared as a result of preparatory measures.

It is inserted into the connector and dialed with a multimeter.

You can use a cheap Chinese device. Even it will allow you to get error-free results.

Before installing the cores, you need to insert the wire into the mount (even experienced installers often forget to do this, which leads to loss of time and nerves for repeated re-wiring).

Although in most sockets from other manufacturers this can be done later, Legrand does not provide for this in devices.

Then insert the latch and fix it by turning it, using little force.

Cut off the excess ends and assemble the internet socket.

At the final stage, secure the lid.

Insert the jack of, for example, a patch cord coming from the router into the finished product and check the connection.

After making sure that the outlet is working properly, put on the decorative cover and enjoy surfing the Internet.

Conclusion

For a beginner, the procedure will seem lengthy and labor-intensive, but the time it takes to complete the steps in this manual takes less time than it takes to read.

An Internet socket, which is used in computer and other communication networks, has a significant difference from connecting and installing conventional electrical equipment. This is explained by the presence of a cable for data transmission (twisted pair is used) and the presence of an RJ-45 plug that must be connected to the power supply (type 8P8C). These two differences significantly changed the structure of the connector, because of this, the installation and connection of the Internet outlet also changed significantly.

What is important to know?

As a rule, a socket with two twisted pairs with four wires is used (eight wires are obtained). Each core is divided by color and has a personal color marking. They are all necessary for fast data transmission.

The 8Р8С type connector, which is used to connect to the socket, has the following form:

Manufacturing engineers spent a lot of effort developing such an Internet socket that the user could independently install and connect to the electrical network, without experience or special equipment. In addition, the consumer must make the connection in such a way that the reliability of the connections and the safety of the contacts remain at the highest level.

Preparatory work

The example uses a product from the Legrand Valena model. Since its mechanism is suitable for many series of Legrand electrical installation equipment, it has become popular among consumers.

Before you begin installing a computer socket with your own hands, you need to install a twisted pair cable. To do this, the end of the twisted pair is brought out into the socket box.

First of all, you need to remove the back cover from the mechanism. To do this, the Internet socket must be turned back to face. This is done as follows: you need to turn the white lock clockwise (approximately ninety degrees). How this is done correctly is shown in the photo below:

After the latch has been rotated, it stands perpendicular to the connector body and the rear part of the structure is easily detached from the device. Then you need to insert the network cable (twisted pair) into the center of the back cover, which was previously removed. This is done from the latch side (outer side). After this you need to expose the veins. To do this, you need to carefully remove the protective sheath from the twisted pair.

Connection nuances

There are grooves and stickers on the back cover of the Internet socket that indicate which circuit the device can be connected to. There are two connection schemes - A and B. Which type to use depends on how the equipment is connected to each other.

Today, almost all network structures independently recognize the connection scheme used and, if necessary, adapt to it. But the network socket to which you need to connect the mechanism to access the Internet is best installed by connecting the wires of diagram B.

According to the diagram, you need to place twisted pair wires of a certain color into the grooves of the cover of the corresponding color.

Then return the lid to its original place. As soon as the cover is in its seat, close the white latch. To do this, it turns counterclockwise. It should be noted that incorrect installation of the cover is completely excluded, since the device has special elements that are mirrored on the connector (protrusion and groove). Therefore, it is impossible to install the elements incorrectly.

But the question arises: how is the Internet socket connected to the cable, since the insulation from the cores was not removed? This is considered the main difference between a network socket and other electrical installation structures. The contact pads in a computer socket are two sharpened plates. They are arranged so that the distance between them is equal to the cross-section of the double copper core.

Thus, the cover with all the inserted wires is placed in its original place, and these blades cut through the insulation of the twisted pair and come into contact with the cores that conduct current. This connection is reliable. It guarantees uninterrupted stable operation of electronic structures. In this case, the work will be carried out without unnecessary losses.

Then you should make sure that the installation of the cores is carried out correctly and cut off the excess ends of the twisted pair that stick out. The main thing is not to allow any cables to accidentally short-circuit with each other.

All that remains is to install the Internet socket in the socket box and secure the front panel. Once connected to the network, you can check the result. You can install and connect any network device yourself using this method. Even if the contact groups in them are different, the meaning will not change.

For example, there is a socket mechanism that is connected manually. That is, each twisted pair cord is squeezed into a specific terminal according to the number and, as shown in the photo below. This is a little more complicated and longer than installing a Legrand series internet outlet. But the technology of how to install and connect the device remains unchanged: the cores fall into the hole between the pointed plates and touch the core, which carries the current.

Important! Before connecting the cable, you should call your Internet provider and find out what connection scheme is used in the apartment.

Now you know how to install and connect an Internet outlet with your own hands. We hope that the provided diagrams, video and photo examples were useful to you in your own electrical installation!

You probably don't know:

In some cases, when cross-connecting, it is advisable not to crimp the end of a twisted pair Internet or network cable with an RJ-45 plug, but to connect it to an RJ-45 socket mounted on the wall and connect a computer to it through a UTP network cable crimped with RJ-45 plugs or a patch cord or other network equipment.

The range of manufactured RJ-45 sockets allows you to select a socket for connecting two computer plugs, for example, for connecting to a local network and the Internet, a computer and a telephone. In this case, you can use one of the two free twisted pairs of cable to connect to the telephone line at the entrance.

Connecting a network cable to an RJ-45 outlet is easy. After choosing the location for installing the socket, you need to fix it on the wall using two self-tapping screws or glue it with double-sided tape (usually included in the kit).

To install with self-tapping screws, you need to remove the cover and remove the circuit board from the RJ-45 socket body to get to the mounting holes in the base of the socket.

To remove the cover, you need to squeeze it from the sides with two fingers in a place close to the base and pull it towards you. The latches (highlighted in red in the photo) will disengage from the base of the socket, and the cover will easily move to the side. Next, the printed circuit board is removed by moving the four latches in the corners to the sides. The base of the socket is installed in place and screwed to the wall.

The board is returned to its place. Now you can begin installing the RJ-45 socket. On the printed circuit board there is a plate on which the T568B and T568A options for cutting twisted pair conductors into the combs of an RJ-45 socket are drawn in color.

For cutting pairs in an RJ-45 socket, there is a special tool with a knife, for example Gembird T-430. But it makes sense to purchase it if you are constantly cutting up RJ-45 sockets. For a single case of connecting a twisted pair cable to an RJ-45 socket, you can completely get by with a screwdriver with a flat thin tip, the thickness not exceeding the diameter of the copper conductor of the twisted pair.

The cable is prepared for cutting; its outer sheath is removed to a length of 3 cm. Pairs are untwisted to a length of no more than 1.5 cm. When cutting and crimping twisted pairs in an RJ-45 socket, they must be unbraided to the minimum required length. Next, the conductors are inserted one by one into the comb of the RJ-45 socket, tucked in with the side plane of the screwdriver blade, and then pushed in with the end of the blade until it stops.

All that remains is to tighten the clamp and close the RJ-45 socket with the cover. If there is no clamp, you can secure the UTP cable with any thread, twisting it with several turns along with the printed circuit board and tying the ends with a couple of knots. There are holes on the RJ-45 socket circuit board for this purpose.

If there is a need to connect your computer to two networks simultaneously, for example, a local network and the Internet, then instead of two R-J45 sockets, you can install one with two 2×RJ-45 sockets. The design of such a socket is no different from a single RJ-45 socket. Just a little larger in size.

This is what a 2×RJ-45 socket looks like from the inside, cut to accommodate two RJ-45 plugs. The cutting was done by professionals and was not of high quality. Twisted pairs are routed across the entire length of the RJ-45 socket board and are more developed than necessary. As you can see, the connection option for two network devices over one twisted pair cable is used here. The usually unused blue and brown twisted pairs are used to transmit information.

Laying twisted pair cables

After connecting the twisted pair cable at the entrance, it must be routed throughout the apartment to the RJ-45 socket. Laying twisted pair cables is not much different from laying television or electrical wires.

If you need to lay it along a wall or floor, then the twisted pair cable is nailed with brackets and dowel nails in increments of 30-50 cm so that the cable does not sag.

You can also lay a UTP twisted pair cable to an RJ-45 socket in a plastic cable channel; they come in different sizes in width. It consists of two U-shaped slats. One strip is attached to the wall using self-tapping screws or Liquid Nails construction adhesive. The twisted pair cable is laid in it, the second rail is put on the one fixed to the wall. In such a cable channel, you can additionally lay a television cable, communication wires and intercom wires.

If you have plinths with cable ducts, then the cable can be hidden inside the plinth.

If there is no special fastener, then the network cable can be laid and secured with homemade clamps made of tin or plastic. The clamps can be secured to the wall with self-tapping screws or nailed with small nails. Staples bent from nails will also work, but you need to be careful not to damage the cable when hammering in the staples.

Tool used for crimping twisted pair cables

Crimping RJ-45 wire (instructions)

To properly crimp an RJ-45 wire, follow these steps:

Using pliers, we bite off the piece of cable necessary to accomplish the goal (necessarily at a right angle), so that the conductors are in an even position.

Carefully remove the outer insulating layer by approximately 2.5–3.5 cm.

We select the cores by color in accordance with the crimping pattern chosen earlier. In order to do this, you first need to unravel the wires and align them, and then lay them side by side in the correct sequence and press them together as tightly as possible. At the end of this step, we bite off the ends of the wires using pliers (crimmer) at a distance of about 10–15 mm from the edge of the insulation.

Options for sorting wires in a twisted pair cable

Slowly and very carefully attach the connector to the cable. We constantly monitor the conductors and under no circumstances allow them to enter the connector in the wrong sequence (otherwise the system will not function!). Smoothly push the wires until they fit tightly into the connector.

Video: crimping twisted pair cables with special tools

At the same time, not always and not everyone may have the tool necessary for twisted pair cables at hand, so there is another type of crimping - using a flat-head screwdriver.

Crimping the cable using a flathead screwdriver

We repeat the steps similar to the previous method (cut off the cable, strip the outer insulating layer).

We select the electrical circuit and sort the wires.

We shorten the conductors to the required size.

Carefully insert the connector.

We turn the connector over so that the latch is on the bottom and the contacts are on top. We place it on a flat surface so that the edges of the connector rest on some base, while the latch must remain free (to avoid possible damage).

Take a screwdriver and gently press on the connector. We repeat this action until you see that it does not protrude from the connector housing; when this happens, the cable will be securely fastened in the housing.

Carefully press the screwdriver in the area of the contacts and push them down. We carefully check that they pass through the insulating layer and are fixed in the conductive core.

How to connect an internet outlet: installation instructions

Installation and connections are the final stage of creating a computer network, but before you begin, make preliminary preparations

Before you begin installing the socket, you must go through the following preparatory steps:

We lay twisted pair cables to the place where we plan to install the socket (we create internal wiring), which will pass along grooves prepared in advance. With this method of laying the cable, it will be completely covered by the surface of the wall (internal installation), which ensures its protection from damage and interference (noise);

We install the installation box. To do this, in the place chosen for installing the socket, we make a hole using a hammer drill. Then we attach the box to this place using self-tapping screws or dowels.

Video: Installing an Indoor RJ-45 Receptacle

In the event that an open method (external installation) was chosen for mounting the socket, an additional element will be needed for fixation - a cable box that is mounted on the wall. After the socket has been installed on the wall, we remove the cover and proceed to its direct connection.

Direct connection of RJ 45 socket

Connecting the cable to the outlet is quite simple and will not cause any difficulties. You just need to remember that there are two schemes for connecting the socket to the connector. T568 "A" or T568 "B". The difference between these schemes is only in the color scheme of the wires.

Internal arrangement of Internet sockets

The socket terminals are also marked based on the colors of the wires intended to be connected to them. For this purpose, manufacturers mainly use special stickers on which the markings are applied. In order for the entire system to function properly in the future, you just need to connect the socket, focusing on this marking.

Work order:

1. Remove the front cover from the socket.

2. Remove the outer insulating layer of about 5–6 cm and straighten the cores.

3. Align and distribute the twisted pair cores.

4. In accordance with the selected connection diagram, we insert the cores into the ports (without removing the additional layer of insulation).

Most Internet sockets are equipped with special latches that work on the principle of clamps. This means that crimping an RJ 45 cable can be done without the use of additional equipment. If they are missing, then to fix the wires we use bolts, which we fasten with a screwdriver.

5. We fix the socket on the wall or in the installation box.

6. Install the front panel on the socket.

Manufacturers of Internet sockets

There are many companies in the world that produce sockets used for organizing computer networks. Let's get acquainted with some of them:

Viko- a company founded in Turkey in 1980. It is the owner of many certificates, which it received as a reward for high quality services from representatives of the International Organization for Standardization. Currently, the company has developed a fairly large product sales network, consisting of 55 countries, including Russia.

Legrand- Is a leading French company in the manufacture of electrical components used for household and industrial purposes. Despite its relatively young age, it produces a fairly extensive line of products: sockets intended for use in telephone and computer networks, pass-through switches, RCD (Residual Current Devices) circuit breakers, contactors, etc.

Hager Systems - a company founded in Germany in 1955, which opened a representative office in Russia in 2004. Since 2011, it has been called Electrical Systems and Technologies LLC, as it was purchased by Russian investors in 2009. It is engaged in the production of electrical equipment, for example, sockets, switches, modular-type protective switching equipment, cable ducts, etc.
